8 of 11 modifications are conditional for Sedans in Florida
Aftermarket Exhaust
Florida · All
Replacing the exhaust system is legal in Florida, but a muffler in good working order is required and cutouts or bypasses are prohibited. Modifications that make the exhaust louder than the originally installed muffler are prohibited.

Exhaust Noise
Florida · All
Florida sets exact limits at 50 feet: passenger cars from model year 1979 on may not exceed 72 dBA in zones posted 35 mph or less and 79 dBA above that (76/82 for older cars). A muffler in constant operation is separately required, and cutouts are prohibited.

Headlight & Taillight Tint
Florida · All
Smoked or tinted film on headlights and taillights is illegal in Florida. Headlights must emit white light and taillights must show red at the required visibility distance, and tint that dims or discolors them violates those requirements.

License Plate Frames
Florida · All
Knowingly applying material that interferes with any feature of a Florida plate is a second-degree criminal misdemeanor. From October 1, 2026, SB 488 narrows the protected elements to the plate number and registration decal — and expressly makes frames lawful when both stay visible.

Lift Kits
Florida · All
Florida caps bumper height by vehicle weight — cars 22–27 inches, trucks 24–30 inches depending on class.

Light Bars & LED Lighting
Florida · All
Florida requires no cover for auxiliary lamps. No more than four front lamps over 300 candlepower may be lit at any one time on a highway, and nothing red, red-and-white, or blue may be visible from directly in front.

Lowering
Florida · All
Florida sets no minimum bumper height — FS 316.251 only caps maximums — so the practical lowering floor is headlamps at 24 inches.
Limits, exceptions & statute →
Underglow
Florida · All
Underglow is legal in Florida, including while driving — no red or red-and-white visible from the front, no blue anywhere, and no flashing.
Limits, exceptions & statute →
Wheel & Tire Protrusion
Florida · All
Florida does not require tires to stay within the fender line and has no fender-flare mandate for cars.
Limits, exceptions & statute →
Window Banners
Florida · All
Transparent sunscreening is allowed along a strip at the top, as long as it does not encroach on the AS-1 portion. Because the material must be transparent, a printed or opaque banner is not legal in Florida — only a clear tint band.

Window Tint
Florida · All
Front side windows: minimum 28% VLT. Rear side and back windows: minimum 15% VLT. Darker limits apply behind the driver on some larger vehicles.
