License Plate Frames in Kansas
Kansas bans plate covers outright — clear ones included — whenever they affect the plate's visibility or reflectivity, and since July 1, 2026 a frame that hides the number, state name, or decal is a violation too (warnings only through the end of 2026).

What the law says
K.S.A. 8-15,110, as rewritten by SB 403 (effective July 1, 2026), makes it unlawful to display a plate covered in whole or in part by any clear or opaque material affecting its visibility or reflectivity, or framed by any object affecting the visibility or legibility required by the statute: the alphanumeric number, state of issue, and the month and color of the registration decal must all be determinable from a reasonably safe distance. For the frame provision, officers issue warning citations through December 31, 2026, with full enforcement from January 1, 2027.
