Vehicle Mod Laws in Nevada

Vehicle type: Sedan

8 of 11 modifications are conditional for Sedans in Nevada

Aftermarket Exhaust

Nevada · All

Conditional

Replacing the exhaust system is legal in Nevada, but a muffler in good working order is required and cutouts or bypasses are prohibited. There is no statutory 'no louder than stock' rule — the standard is that the exhaust must not produce excessive or unusual noise.

Exhaust Noise

Nevada · All

Conditional

Nevada sets numeric limits by regulation: passenger cars may not exceed 76 dBA where the speed limit is 35 mph or less, or 82 dBA above that, measured at 50 feet. A muffler is separately required.

Headlight & Taillight Tint

Nevada · All

Illegal

Smoked or tinted film on headlights and taillights is illegal in Nevada. Headlights must emit white light and taillights must show red at the required visibility distance, and tint that dims or discolors them violates those requirements.

License Plate Frames

Nevada · All

Conditional

Frames are legal if the plate stays clearly legible; it must be maintained free from foreign materials and clearly visible.

Limits, exceptions & statute →

Lift Kits

Nevada · All

Conditional

Nevada limits lift by capping ground clearance: the lowest portion of the body may sit no more than 24 inches above the ground on passenger cars, rising to 28, 30, and 32 inches by truck weight class.

Light Bars & LED Lighting

Nevada · All

Conditional

Nevada requires no cover. Where a vehicle has auxiliary or spot lamps, or any front lamp over 300 candlepower, no more than four may be lit at one time on a highway.

Limits, exceptions & statute →

Lowering

Nevada · All

Legal

Nevada has no statute limiting how low a vehicle may be. General equipment rules — headlamp height, working lighting, nothing dragging on the road — still apply.

Limits, exceptions & statute →

Underglow

Nevada · All

Conditional

Underglow is legal in Nevada, including while driving, subject to color and flashing limits: No red or blue (emergency colors), front-facing lamps limited to amber or white and rear to red, and no flashing.

Limits, exceptions & statute →

Wheel & Tire Protrusion

Nevada · All

Legal

Nevada has no fender-coverage rule for passenger cars and no limit on tire protrusion.

Limits, exceptions & statute →

Window Banners

Nevada · All

Conditional

Nevada bars any sign, poster, or non-transparent material on the windshield that obstructs the driver's clear view, with one exception: a 6-inch-square area in the lower corner farthest from the driver. Tinted transparent material is allowed only on the uppermost portion with its bottom edge at least 29 inches above the undepressed driver's seat. Because the material must be transparent, a printed or opaque banner is not legal in Nevada — only a clear tint band.

Window Tint

Nevada · All

Conditional

Front side windows: minimum 35% VLT. Rear side and back windows: any darkness.
