Light Bars & LED Lighting in Colorado
Colorado has no cover or switch-off statute for light bars. It permits two lamps per auxiliary category, each with a mounting-height band a roof-mounted bar cannot meet — so lighting one on the road violates the lamp rules directly — and caps lit front lamps over 300 candlepower at four.

What the law says
C.R.S. § 42-4-212 permits two each of spot lamps, fog lamps (mounted 12-30 in), auxiliary passing lamps (20-42 in), and auxiliary driving lamps (16-42 in). § 42-4-219 caps front lamps over 300 candlepower at four lit at one time on a highway, and § 42-4-220 requires other bright lamps to be aimed so the beam strikes within 75 feet and all lamps to be of a department-approved type. Nothing in Title 42 requires a cover or disconnection; a roof-mounted bar simply fits no permitted lamp category, which is why it cannot be lit on the road.
