IS MY MOD LEGAL?

Underglow in Colorado

Conditional

Colorado's rule is stricter than most: a non-emergency vehicle may not even be equipped with a lamp capable of displaying red or blue toward the front, any other use of green is a violation, and flashing displays are reserved by color for emergency and service vehicles. Steady white or amber accent lighting is the safe configuration.

What the law says

C.R.S. § 42-4-238 makes it a class 2 misdemeanor to drive or even control a non-emergency vehicle containing a lamp designed or capable of displaying red or blue visible from directly in front of the vehicle's center. § 42-4-213(4) limits green lights to a stationary emergency command post — any other use of green is a violation. Flashing displays are reserved by color (yellow for service vehicles, red/blue/green for emergency use, hazard flashers excepted), and extra front-facing lamps must show white or amber (§ 42-4-215).
